Molding & Spinning Set Up Technician – 1st Shift
St Louis Park
$22-28/hour
As a Molding and Spinning Set-Up Technician, you'll play a key role in setting up, operating, and fine-tuning spinning lathes, injection molding, and compression molding machines. In this dynamic position, you'll work closely with the shift supervisor to ensure smooth operations and efficient production throughout the department. You'll also help train and mentor team members to maintain workflow and meet production goals.
Job Duties:
- Set up and operate all programmable and template spinning lathes, as well as injection molding and compression molding machines and associated equipment.
- Perform machine adjustments and implement process improvements to enhance part quality and ensure optimal machine performance.
- Assist with shift transition by communicating with the 2nd Shift Set-Up Technician.
- Shrink wrap, tape, and weigh boxes and materials as needed.
- Sample material, molds, punches, and dies.
- Train other set-up techs, assistants, and operators.
- Monitor productivity by tracking downtime and cycle rates.
- Create schedules, machine utilization plans, process documents, and set up procedures.
- Make data entries including bar coding, moving material, shipping, and receiving.
- Load and unload trucks and properly locate raw materials.
- Work closely with support departments to address maintenance or tooling concerns.
- Make suggestions for departmental processes or improvements.
- Organize cabinets, spinning/molding storage areas, and documentation in a neat and orderly fashion.
Requirements:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Mechanical aptitude
- Must maintain a reliable record of attendance and punctuality
- Show initiative, motivation and be able to multi-task without direction
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Possess a strong sense of determination
- 1+ Year experience in either spinning, injection molding or compression molding preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods while working within a designated work cell.
- Must be able to assume various body positions necessary for material handling and machine setup.
- Periodically move or lift materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Must be able to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to ensure understanding.
- Requires the ability to distinguish and interpret auditory information.
- Work environment involves a high nose level; hearing protection is required and provided.
- Must be able to observe and interpret details at both near and far distances. Requires adequate visual perception for accurate color identification and assessment.
- Exposure to airborne particles; eye protection is required and provided. Exposure to high temperatures from machinery or materials.
- Steel toe shoes or boots are required; employees receive and annual reimbursement of up to $150 for qualifying footwear.
