Position: Engineering Manager
Department: Engineering and R & D Department
Salary: $120 - $155k (DOE)
Shift: 1st
Domestic and international travel of up to 25%.
Objective of Position: The Engineering Manager is responsible to provide leadership, direction, planning and accomplishment of short- and long-term goals and objectives, for all Engineering and R & D functions; including design responsibility for all new unit orders and development projects within the company. This will include direct responsibility for product development, electrical and mechanical design, drafting, and Sales and Manufacturing support.
Major Areas of Accountability:
• Provides daily guidance, direction, and performance feedback to a cross functional team; ensuring a high-level of performance.
• Provides technical leadership as it relates to research and development resolving customer issues regarding product quality, performance, product selection, etc. in ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
• Initiates potential improvements or additions to Company's product lines developing metrics and goals to monitor performance and effectiveness.
• Responsible for accomplishment of short- and long-term goals and objectives, for Engineering and R & D areas, as established jointly with business leaders and executive team.
• Ensures all products, and parts are designed in a manner to be produced efficiently, safely and meet quality and delivery standards.
• Responsible to support Sales and Marketing group with technical and commercial input regarding new and existing negotiations.
• Defines and implements solutions to continuously improve design and manufacturing process, eliminating safety risks, cutting production costs, increasing product value, and continuously defining and improving quality of products and processes.
• Responsible for ensuring Engineering systems and design tools remain updated, and current to support current process capabilities, while improving future performance quality, cost, and speed.
• Track and analyze critical Engineering and R & D program parameters to improve processes.
• Prepares operating budgets for Engineering and R & D organization ensuring activities are conducted according to budget guidelines.
• Develops and disseminates policies, procedures, and processes regarding design methods, quality and safety.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
• BS degree Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required; experience electric motors and generators preferred. Master’s Degree preferred.
• 10+ years of direct engineering experience.
• Knowledge of documentation requirements of ISO 9001 required.
• Minimum of 5 years proven experience leading and managing Engineering or R & D in related industry.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience using SAP required.
• Experience with process improvements and lean principles in a highly technical and specialized design environment.
• Demonstrated strong leadership skills with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to influence without authority, build trust, manage complexity and drive-results.
• Creative problem-solver, identify new alternative materials and solutions to client needs. • Proficient MS Suite programs.
• Strong presentation skills with ability to present to all levels of management.
• Excellent organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and the entire engineering team on track.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to occasionally ascend/descend scaffolding, ladders or several flights of stairs.
• Ability to occasionally lifts and move 25 pounds.
