Job Full Description
Key Responsibilities:
Operate forklifts (including heavy-duty and extended-reach forklifts) to load, unload, stack, and transport galvanized steel products and raw materials.
Handle and move steel coils, sheets, bundles, and pallets in accordance with plant safety procedures and quality standards.
Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance checks on forklift equipment and report any issues.
Work closely with production, shipping/receiving, and warehouse teams to ensure timely delivery of materials to and from workstations or loading areas.
Maintain accurate records of material movements and complete all required documentation.
Follow established safety guidelines, including the use of PPE and adherence to OSHA and plant-specific standards.
Assist with manual loading/unloading as needed; may include using overhead cranes or other material handling equipment.
Ensure a clean and organized work environment within the plant and yard areas.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Minimum 1–2 years of forklift operation experience, preferably in a steel or heavy manufacturing environment.
Valid forklift certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Familiarity with galvanized steel products and handling requirements is a plus.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physically demanding industrial setting.
Basic math and reading skills; ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and productivity.
Work Environment:
Exposure to hot, cold, and noisy conditions typical of a steel plant.
Indoor and outdoor work required.
Steel-toe boots, gloves, and other PPE must be worn at all times.
Shift work, including evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
