Safety Coordinator
Contract to hire position
Pay based on experience
Job Summary:
The Concrete Plant Safety Coordinator is responsible for ensuring a safe work environment by developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs at the plant site. This position supports regulatory compliance, reduces incidents, and fosters a proactive safety culture among all employees, contractors, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor daily operations to ensure compliance with company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across the plant and job sites.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead and facilitate safety training, including new hire orientation, toolbox talks, and refresher courses.
- Ensure all employees are properly trained and compliant with PPE usage, lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, and other safety protocols.
- Maintain SDS (Safety Data Sheet) documentation and ensure hazardous materials are labeled and stored correctly.
- Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Serve as the point of contact for safety inspections by local, state, or federal agencies.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement in safety practices.
- Maintain and report safety metrics (e.g., TRIR, DART) and develop trend analyses for management.
- Assist with emergency response planning and drills.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience in a safety role within industrial, manufacturing, or construction settings (concrete plant experience preferred).
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification (Construction or General Industry required).
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable safety and environmental regulations.
- Strong communication and training skills; ability to influence all levels of the organization.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- First Aid/CPR Certification preferred.
- CHST, CSP, or other relevant safety certifications are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a plant environment (outdoors and indoors) with exposure to dust, noise, heat, and heavy machinery.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, walk, climb ladders, and access confined spaces as required.
