Operations Technician I – Operations & Facilities
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Operations Technician I performs routine maintenance and operational support tasks across facilities and grounds. This role is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, assisting with rail and vessel-related activities, supporting facility upkeep, and contributing to overall safety and security. The position requires flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of restrooms, warehouses, wharves, docks, offices, and surrounding areas
- Assist railcar operators with positioning railcars for loading and unloading
- Maintain lawns, roadways, ditches, and grounds
- Conduct daily inspections of warehouse facilities
- Monitor vessel activities as needed, including after hours, weekends, and holidays
- Support facility security efforts
- Operate equipment such as lawn maintenance tools and trucks
- Assist Facilities personnel and complete additional tasks as assigned by the Operations & Facilities Superintendent
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience operating mechanical or lawn equipment preferred
- Experience in warehouse or industrial operations preferred
- Must have clear background check, drug screen and valid license
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to work effectively with operations staff, facilities personnel, and industry partners
- Understanding of basic facility and terminal operations and safety practices
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to operational procedures
- Strong work ethic with reliable attendance
WORKING CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Must be available for on-call duty and emergency response 24/7
- Ability to work at unprotected heights
- Ability to work in environments with dust, fumes, and gases
- Ability to work around moving vehicles, machinery, and heavy equipment
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift and carry moderate loads
- Must be insurable under the organization’s auto insurance policy
