DISPATCHER- PART-TIME
DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
High school graduate (or equivalent) or demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions. Experience in transit dispatching, scheduling software, cleriq,1I and communication work. An employee in this class performs a variety of duties related to the delivery of public and human service transportation services. Decisions will need to be made in reference to moving clients from one vehicle to another in certain cases. The employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in perfo"rming a variety of duties. Considerable tack and firmness are required in meeting the general public and obtaining all necessary information from clients requesting information. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor/Director of Transportation and is subject to review through observation of work and periodic conferences.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Operates transportation scheduling software in order to provide "live" dispatching which includes moving passengers from one vehicle to another.
2. Assist Scheduler with drivers' duty in time.
3. Communicates information to drivers by two-way radio
4. Documents information from drivers on dispatcher log
5. Answers telephone
6. Notifies staff of delays or changes in vehicle schedules
7. Maintains a positive working relationship with employees, management, contractual client agencies, and the general public.
8. Assures that all local, state and federal policies, rules and regulations are complied with and properly implemented, while performing duties in a timely manner.
9. Responsible for relaying to Operations Supervisor and/or Director methods and procedures that will save time.
10. Advises the Operations Supervisor or the Director of Transportation with complaints from contractual agencies and the general public concerning services.
11. This position will work with the day dispatcher in reference to availability to ensure that dispatch is always covered.
12. Other duties assigned by Management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Must be able to multi-task
2. Ability to work under stress while keeping pleasant attitude
3. Working knowledge of the geographical layout of Onslow County as to the location of streets, roads, important buildings and other landmarks.
4. Working knowledge of the operation of two-way radio equipment and related Federal Communication Commission (FCC} regulations.
5. Familiar with transportation scheduling software
6. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
7. Ability to input data correctly
8. Ability to exercise good judgment in emergency situations
9. Ability to speak clearly, distinctly and politely
10. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION:
1. Hours of work shall be flexible, normal hours and days shall be Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with one hour for lunch

The position is in an office environment. There are no loud noises, noxious smells, or open heat sources. If you smoke, you may take a break and smoke behind the building.
