Job Full Description
Job Summary: The Plastics Compounding Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining equipment used to produce compounded plastic materials. This role involves handling raw materials, blending additives, operating extruders, and ensuring consistent product quality in accordance with company standards and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate single or twin-screw extruders and related equipment for the compounding of plastic resins (e.g., PP, ABS, HIPS, Nylon, PC/ABS).
• Load raw materials and additives into feeders or hoppers per job specifications or work orders.
• Monitor process parameters (temperature, pressure, RPM, vacuum) and adjust settings to maintain proper melt quality and throughput.
• Conduct in-process quality checks such as melt flow index, color, moisture, and pellet uniformity.
• Document production data, machine parameters, and any deviations or downtime events. • Troubleshoot mechanical and material issues with minimal supervision.
• Clean and maintain equipment and work area in accordance with safety and housekeeping standards.
• Follow all safety guidelines including PPE use, lockout/tagout procedures, and material handling protocols.
• Assist with equipment setups, die changes, and preventive maintenance as needed.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required; technical training or manufacturing certification a plus
• 1+ year experience in plastics extrusion, compounding, or polymer processing preferred
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools
• Ability to read and interpret production orders, safety data sheets (SDS), and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Forklift certification or ability to become certified
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
