Superintendent-Excavating

First Shift |  75K - 125K (depending on experience)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible to manage on-site earth moving activities to assure the project is constructed in accordance with contractual obligations to be completed within budget, on schedule, and within acceptable quality standards outlined in the contract documents.  Ensure company safety guidelines and project specific safety plan are being met at the jobsite.

MAJOR DUTIES AND KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Schedules and coordinates daily work activities including subcontractor work and deliveries in conformance with project schedule. 
  • Communicates to employees estimated productivity rates for self-performed work and monitors conformance to these rates.
  • Responsible to ensure project profitability.
  • Inquires about mobilization and lead times for subcontractors and materials.
  • Calculates job progress, risks and time necessary to perform tasks.
  • With assistance of Project Manager, creates and updates project schedule.
  • Reviews and approves employee time cards for project activities.
  • Acts as or supervises Horst Construction’s competent safety person on site and maintains site activities in accordance with the company safety policy and project specific safety plan.
  • Monitors quality of all work self-performed or subcontracted under  contract.
  • Responsible to document as-built conditions on a record set of as-built drawings as changes occur.
  • Responsible for remediation of all non-conforming work, whether self-performed or subcontracted.
  • Complies with municipality requirements, specifications, safety standards and company policies.
  • Reviews contracts, subcontracts and purchase orders.
  • Communicates with Project Manager, Owner, Subcontractor, employees, inspectors, suppliers, architects and engineers.
  • Responsible for interpretation of contract documents, project layouts and problem solving.
  • Delegates appropriate tasks and responsibilities to field staff.
  • Investigates site conditions.
  • Develops a positive working atmosphere, work schedule and habits.
  • Prepares Daily Log Reports, Job Site Managers Weekly Report, O.S. Reports, etc.
  • Purchases materials via Field Purchase Orders.
  • Coordinates project site set-up (fencing, signage, trailers, etc.)
  • Performs all other duties at the request of the General Superintendent.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS

•    Must be able to read, write, understand and communicate effectively in English.
•    Must be able to read, understand and communicate effectively in the reading of blueprints and contract documents.
•    Knowledge of excavation is required.
•    Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•    Adheres to company policies and safety standards. Required to successfully complete all required safety training within one year of hire date.
•    Will be required to obtain all clearances required to work on school projects, including but not limited to: Pennsylvania and Federal criminal history records, fingerprint submission, Act 34 background check, and Act 151 child abuse clearances.
•    Six to ten years of excavation experience.
•    One to two years of management experience.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

•    Basic academic education (high school diploma or equivalent).
•    Required to complete 10 hour OSHA training within one year of hire date. 30 year OSHA training preferred and encouraged.

•    Approximately 25-50% of time spent on supervising.
