    Forgotten Harvest
    Forgotten Harvest

The Express Employment Team of Royal Oak supports Forgotten Harvest throughout the year. As an organization dedicated to relieving hunger in Metro Detroit and preventing nutritious food waste, Forgotten Harvest "rescues" over 41 million pounds of food each year. They collect surplus prepared and perishable food from 800 sources, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered free-of-charge to 280 emergency food providers in the Metro Detroit area.

With a distribution center located in Oak Park, the Express team regularly participates in volunteer food packaging days. By spending 4-8 hours in a day working with the "rescued" food, they package between 2,000 to 4,000 lbs of ready to cook or eat prepared food that will be put in the hands of those who need it most in our community. Below are just a few pictures from our time with them.
