“I had my first job at age 16. I worked at a 99 Cent Cleaners as
a front desk clerk for about two years. I would take the customers garments
when they dropped them off. My scheduled hours were from 5pm to 9pm and I
worked 3 days out of the week and every other Saturday. I would get out of
school and take the city bus straight to work. My pay was only about $5.25 an hour, minimum wage at the time. I took home about $98.00 a
week. I remember being excited, feeling like an adult having money for my
personal expenses.”
“Working taught me how to be responsible with money and how to
interact with customers. I learned how important good customer service is to a
business. For the most part it was a good first job experience.”
