Job Full Description
Job Summary
The Fab Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all fabrication shop activities to ensure production schedules are met, quality standards are maintained, and safety protocols are followed. This includes managing a team of welders and fabricators while coordinating workflow, materials, and equipment.
Essential Functions
1. Supervise and lead fabrication shop personnel in daily operations, including welding, cutting, forming, and assembly.
2. Assign tasks and monitor progress to ensure jobs are completed on time and within specifications.
3. Maintain productivity levels and enforce safety, quality, and cleanliness standards
4. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and job orders.
5. Ensure all work meets applicable codes and standards.
6. Conduct quality inspections of in-process and completed work.
7. Train and mentor employees in fabrication processes, equipment use, and safety procedures.
8. Monitor and manage inventory levels of materials and supplies.
9. Collaborate with engineering, purchasing, and project management teams to coordinate workflow.
10. Maintain and submit production records, timesheets, and incident reports as required.
11. Troubleshoot problems with equipment, materials, or production delays.
12. Ensure preventative maintenance is performed on shop equipment.
13. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Competencies
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem solving skills.
- Familiar and proficient in mild steel wire (MIG), hard wire, flux cored SS, tig welding, and fusion bonded welding.
- Able to read and follow blueprints and schematics.
- Able to use basic hand tools such as drills, various saws, and grinders
- Able to take and read measurements correctly using a tape measure, level, etc.

Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED with relevant experience required. Post-secondary or Trade School education is preferred but not required. Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory position and minimum of 5 years’ experience in metal fabrication.
Work Environment
This job operates in a typical shop environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. There is also frequent use of power tools, including saws, and forklift. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee will be required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
