Position: Collections Specialist

Location: Texarkana, TX

Hours: M-F, 8:15am-5:15pm

Pay: $21.00/Hour, DOE

The Collections Assistant preserves the assets by servicing delinquent accounts. Also, performs administrative functions by reviewing and administering account charge off actions, monitoring delinquency reports, and responding to and initiate member calls and emails regarding collection related inquiries.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Promote “SCOPE” to our employees, management, and members.
  • Ensure that collection practices are in compliance with government regulations.
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with Collection Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain detailed documentation regarding collection actions.
  • Prepare copies of collection material and collate as needed.
  • Responsible for preparing and inputting certain reports for special accounts.
  • Process and complete negative shares and charge off shares.
  • Responsible for filing miscellaneous forms to members’ files. Monitor, transfer, and apply payments on delinquent loans, EFT’s and ACH’s as appropriate.
  • Assist with the collection process on credit cards daily and close when necessary.
  • Responsible for investigating and processing cred disputes and ChexSystems records.
  • File bankruptcy claims and correspond with attorneys as needed.
  • Post bankruptcy checks to loans.
  • Provide back-up support to Recovery Department by showing or moving repos as needed and adding repos to the website.
  • Assist the collection specialist with paperwork such as small claims, judgements, and writs.
  • Code accounts and assist with Collection Department paperwork for repossessions, insurance, etc.
  • Provide back-up support to collection specialist by responding to inbound calls and emails from members and staff.
  • Maintain a member friendly and professional behavior in all situations.
  • Complete required annual training and adhere to all Credit Union policies and procedures, including but not limited to BSA, MIP, OFAC, Privacy and Electronic Use.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Ability to apply logic to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong knowledge and use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge and background experience in lending.
  • Knowledge and background experience in collections.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and can deal with multiple variables.
  • Display a professional appearance, demeanor, and dress.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management and project management abilities.
  • Ability to function and form decisions with minimal supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma, or GED, required.
  • Minimum of one (2) year customer service experience or collections experience. Knowledge of loan process and procedures preferred.
