Express Employment Professionals is recruiting a TemporaryLaboratory Assistant for a Waste Management facility in the Yuba/Sutter area. This entry-level position works under supervision in the laboratory and performs routine, less complicated, and repetitive tasks. The Laboratory Assistant will assist with water and wastewater sampling, data entry, sample testing, maintaining laboratory work areas, and clerical duties, including invoicing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform water and wastewater sampling and basic laboratory testing.
- Enter data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Maintain laboratory work areas and equipment.
- Assist with clerical tasks, including invoicing and recordkeeping.
- Follow laboratory safety procedures and guidelines, including proper handling of acids and use of fume hoods.
- Support ongoing laboratory projects and ensure tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
Knowledge Required:
- Basic principles, practices, and techniques of chemistry and bacteriology.
- Physical and chemical analysis methods and techniques.
- Basic mathematics and statistics.
- Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Standard laboratory safety practices.
- Safe driving and work practices.
- Modern office procedures and methods.
Skills Required:
- Coordinating multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Maintaining accurate records and files.
- Using standard and specialized laboratory test equipment.
- Proficient with computers and software applications.
- Performing arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.

Environmental Conditions:
- Office conditions: clean, well-lit, free from extremes of temperature and humidity.
- Field conditions: may include exposure to varying temperatures, wind, rain, and other outdoor elements.
Education:
- Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Sanitary or Public Health Engineering, or a related natural or physical science field.
Experience:
- Laboratory experience involving basic analytical procedures related to water and/or wastewater.
- Customer service experience is desired.
