Laboratory Technician (20/hr to start)
Job Summary:
Under direct supervision, sets up lab equipment and/or participates in the running of equipment for a specified project (job). Duties may include setting up equipment, adding chemicals to the equipment, work-up of the product and clean-up. Works occasional overtime or shift work as required.
Minimum Job Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED
Reliable work experience (preferably in a laboratory environment)
Job Description:
- Cleans and maintains lab equipment such as vacuum pumps, thermocouples, etc.
- Carries out written manufacturing procedures.
- Participates actively in the company safety program.
- Attends annual training sessions on handling and disposal of hazardous waste.
- Carries out detailed Manufacturing procedures as instructed.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Runs routine instrumentation such as GCs, melting point apparatus, etc.
- Maintains a high level of housekeeping in all areas of the facility.
- Assists in training of probationary technicians.
- Properly handles and disposes of hazardous waste.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
- Knowledge of experimental procedures, protocols and preparation techniques.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and environmental standards.
- Knowledge of distillation techniques.
- Knowledgeable and familiar with handling high-pressure equipment and gases.
- Knowledge involving physical process of chemical reactions.
- Ability to maintain a neat, legible, correct, dated and legally-signed notebook.
- Ability to handle chemicals in a safe, clean, compliant and confident manner.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Work involves exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperature and humidity, toxic chemicals, dust, fumes, smoke and/ or loud noise.
- Some physical activity is required. May require heavy work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part of the job.
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment- eye protection, and respirators when required.
Shift/Schedule
Position will work primarily on day shift, Monday through Friday. However, on occasion, the Lab Tech will be required to work on night shift if project needs require. Candidates will be able to choose if they would like to work 5 x 8 hour days or 4 x 10 hour days as their regular schedule.
