Centerless Grinder / Setup Operator

Position Summary
Express Employment Professionals is seeking a Centerless Grinder / Setup Operator for a long-term role with a high-precision manufacturing client in the Sycamore area. This position requires hands-on experience with machine setup, process control, and tight-tolerance production in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Perform full setup and operation of centerless grinding machines (thru-feed and/or in-feed)

Select, mount, and dress grinding and regulating wheels to achieve required tolerances

Adjust feeds, speeds, work rest height, and coolant flow to optimize cycle time and surface finish

Monitor part geometry including OD, roundness, straightness, and surface finish
-
Inspect parts using precision measurement tools (micrometers, snap gauges, air gauges, etc.)

Conduct in-process inspections and make real-time machine adjustments
-
Troubleshoot grinding issues such as chatter, taper, burn, and size variation

Complete SPC, quality, and production documentation
-
Perform routine machine maintenance and assist with changeovers

Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and housekeeping standards
Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED
-
2+ years of hands-on centerless grinding experience

Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions
-
Experience holding tight tolerances in a production environment

Solid understanding of grinding theory and process control
-
Mechanical aptitude with strong problem-solving skills

Reliable attendance and ability to work independently
Compensation & Schedule

$25.00–$27.00/hour, based on experience
