Job Full Description
We are seeking a hardworking and physically capable Scrap Yard Laborer to join a busy scrap yard operation in Mitchell, IN. This position involves working with scrap metal, unloading customer vehicles, loading trucks, cutting large pieces of steel and iron, and performing other hands-on tasks. Previous scrap yard experience is preferred, but candidates with strong mechanical and physical skills may also be considered.
Job Summary
- Unload customer vehicles and sort or move scrap materials
- Load trucks with scrap metal
- Use a torch to cut large pieces of steel and iron into smaller, manageable pieces
- Perform torch cutting and basic welding tasks
- Handle and move heavy materials throughout the yard
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
- Follow all safety procedures when working with equipment and scrap materials
Experience Required
- Previous scrap yard experience desired
- Experience with torch cutting preferred
- Welding experience preferred
- Experience working in a physically demanding environment
Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and strenuous physical work throughout the day
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to safely handle heavy steel, iron, and scrap materials
- Basic welding and torch skills
- Strong awareness of workplace safety
- Dependable, hardworking, and willing to work as part of a team
- Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures
Location: Mitchell, IN
Pay: $20.00/hour
Position Type: Temporary
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
