Job Full Description
Are you an experienced sawyer with a background in stone cutting and large-scale equipment? We’re looking for a skilled Experienced Sawyer to operate heavy-duty stone-cutting machinery and produce precise, high-quality cuts. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and experience safely handling large stone blocks and slabs.
Job Summary
- Set up, calibrate, and operate large-scale stone-cutting machinery, including diamond wire saws, belt saws, and circular/bridge saws
- Inspect raw quarry blocks for structural integrity, natural fissures, and grain direction
- Plan cuts to maximize material yield and minimize waste
- Make precise linear and architectural cuts according to shop drawings and specifications
- Maintain tight tolerances and consistent slab thickness
- Monitor blade wear, coolant/slurry flow, and diamond segment condition
- Assist with blade changes and tensioning adjustments
- Safely move multi-ton blocks and slabs using overhead cranes, hydraulic block turnover systems, and pneumatic vacuum lifts
- Perform final dimensional checks using precision calipers and gauges
- Mentor junior mill hands and maintain a clean, organized, OSHA-compliant work area
Experience Required
- Previous experience as a sawyer or operating large-scale stone-cutting equipment required
- Experience with diamond wire saws, belt saws, or circular/bridge saws preferred
- Experience reading shop drawings and working to precise measurements
- Experience operating overhead cranes or heavy material-handling equipment is a plus

- Excellent attention to detail and precision
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and specifications
- Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers and gauges
- Strong understanding of equipment safety and proper operating procedures
- Ability to safely work around and handle extremely heavy materials
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to mentor and assist less-experienced team members
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment
