Our client in Cedar Rapids, IA is looking for a 1st Shift Line Lead (Sorter)!
Position Summary: As a Line Lead, you'll be right there alongside the team—helping sort materials while also making sure everything runs smoothly throughout the day. You'll play a key role in keeping things on track, encouraging your teammates, and stepping in when extra support is needed. This role is perfect for someone who leads by example, knows how to connect with others, and can keep a team motivated without needing formal authority. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support a team of recycling sorters through daily tasks by setting a strong example and maintaining a positive, respectful work environment.
- Motivate team members and resolve minor issues on the floor while escalating any larger concerns to management.
- Maintain a “personal touch” with team members—offering encouragement, guidance, and informal coaching to support performance and morale.
- Ensure sorters take breaks and lunches at scheduled times and return on time to maintain line efficiency.
- Keep accurate daily production logs and communicate any issues or delays to the manager.
- Monitor sorting line workflow to ensure efficiency and safe practices.
- Sort and separate recyclable materials (e.g., aluminum, plastic, glass, paper) as needed.
- Identify unacceptable waste and report it to equipment operators or management.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Leadership Note: While this role does not have formal authority (i.e., cannot administer corrective action), you will be expected to lead through influence, accountability, and strong communication. Escalation of performance or conduct concerns should be directed to a manager.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a production, recycling, or warehouse setting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team without formal authority.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs and work in hot or cold conditions.
Hours:
- Monday – Friday: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Occasional Saturday/Overtime
Pay:
- $17.00 – $19.00/hour (based on experience)
