Chief Advancement Officer Job Summary:

Mel Trotter Ministries (MTM) is at the forefront of battling homelessness through shelter services, prevention, diversion, housing, and workforce development. The Chief Advancement Officer plays a critical role in advancing this faith-based mission by leading the organization’s fundraising and donor relations strategy. The Chief Advancement Officer is a key member of the executive team and is responsible for donor stewardship, major gifts, corporate and foundation relations, and advancement initiatives. This strategic leader must have a proven track record in fundraising and relationship management, committed to strengthening donor engagement and expanding financial resources. The ideal candidate is passionate about the vision and mission of MTM and feels called to play a significant role in inspiring generosity.

Chief Advancement Officer Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive advancement strategy, including major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, grants, and corporate partnerships
  • Set and achieve annual fundraising goals in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board
  • Oversee the Donor Relations Team, ensuring effective donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Lead capital campaigns and special fundraising initiatives to support organizational growth
  • Develop and implement donor engagement strategies that foster long-term relationships and increased giving
  • Represent the organization at events, conferences, and networking opportunities to build awareness and support
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including business and community leaders, corporate sponsors, and foundations
  • Lead and collaborate with the marketing team to ensure consistent messaging, alignment, and donor communication
  • Work closely with board members to leverage their networks and fundraising potential
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Donor Relations Team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability

Schedule & Compensation:

  • Monday to Friday, Full-Time
  • Competitive Salary, BOE

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or advancement leadership
  • Proven ability to secure major gifts, manage donor portfolios, and execute successful fundraising campaigns
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency in donor management software and CRM systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive fundraising initiatives forward
  • Proven success in setting goals, metrics, and systems of accountability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field
  • Experience leading capital campaigns and large-scale fundraising initiatives
  • Certification in fundraising or nonprofit management (CFRE or similar)
  • Background in strategic partnerships and corporate philanthropy
  • Experience in an Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS)
