Job Title: Assistant Bakery Manager

Summary

The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the bakery. This role involves assisting with staff leadership, ensuring product quality, managing inventory, and delivering excellent customer service. The Assistant Bakery Manager also helps implement bakery policies, supports administrative functions, and assumes management responsibilities in the absence of the Bakery Manager.


Essential Functions

1. Leadership & Supervision

  • Assist in directing daily bakery operations.

  • Support staff recruitment, scheduling, training, evaluation, and performance management.

  • Foster a positive, team-oriented culture through communication, recognition, and mentoring.

  • Ensure staff receive training to succeed in their roles.

2. Operations Management

  • Help oversee efficient daily bakery operations.

  • Schedule and supervise bakers, clerks, and support personnel.

  • Maintain a clean, organized bakery environment that meets health and safety standards.

  • Provide coverage during staffing shortages and respond to operational needs.

3. Quality Control

  • Maintain high product standards for consistency and taste.

  • Conduct regular quality checks and tastings.

  • Implement and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs).

4. Inventory Management

  • Track ingredient and supply inventory levels.

  • Place supply orders and maintain vendor relationships.

  • Reduce waste and spoilage through effective inventory controls.

5. Financial Management

  • Monitor sales and expenses to support financial goals.

  • Assist with cost control and profitability measures.

6. Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with food safety, health, and labor regulations.

  • Stay informed on industry best practices and trends.

7. Other Duties

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Bakery Manager.


Minimum Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Associate degree in hospitality management or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Successful completion of background screening in line with organizational policies.


Travel

Occasional travel may be required for trainings, errands, or organizational needs.


Work Environment

This role operates primarily in a bakery setting, using both standard bakery and office equipment. Employees regularly interact with a diverse group of customers and staff.


Physical Demands

This is an active role requiring regular physical activity, including standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds as needed.
