Job Title: Auto Body Repair Technician
Job Summary:
The Auto Body Repair Technician is responsible for performing high-quality repairs on vehicles damaged in collisions, restoring them to pre-accident condition. This includes collision repair, frame and uni-body alignment, refinishing, and painting in accordance with industry standards and company procedures.
Key Job Duties:
- Perform collision repair on damaged vehicles, including removing, repairing, and replacing parts.
- Conduct frame and uni-body repairs using appropriate equipment to restore structural integrity and alignment.
- Perform body panel straightening, welding, and fitting to ensure proper vehicle restoration.
- Prepare vehicles for painting by sanding, masking, and priming surfaces.
- Mix, match, and apply paint coatings using spray guns and other refinishing tools.
- Inspect completed work to ensure repairs meet safety and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all safety guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with estimators, parts personnel, and management regarding repair progress.
- Utilize repair manuals, diagrams, and measuring systems for accurate repair completion.
- Stay current with industry repair techniques and materials.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in auto body repair, collision repair, and painting.
- Strong knowledge of frame and uni-body straightening techniques.
- Ability to operate frame machines, welders, spray guns, and other repair tools.
- Understanding of paint mixing systems and color matching.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to interpret repair estimates, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- I-CAR or ASE certifications are preferred but not required.
Compensation:
Compensation varies based on experience and skill level.
- Hourly Technicians:
- Entry-level or lower-experience technicians (around 2 years of experience) typically start at $20/hour, with quick raises as skills and efficiency develop.
- Once capable of performing independently and meeting production goals, technicians transition to the flat rate pay structure.
- Flat Rate Technicians:
- Experienced technicians generally start between $24–$26 per flat rate hour, depending on experience and ability.
- A Step-Up Incentive Program adds an additional $1/hour for each performance benchmark achieved.
Some technicians are ready for flat rate within 1.5–2 years, while others may take up to 3 years—we work with each technician to help them grow and reach their full earning potential.
