Rural: Rural Health Clerk / Receptionist

Position Summary
The Rural Health Clerk/Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors in a rural health clinic. This role ensures efficient front-desk operations, accurate patient registration, and supports clinical staff with administrative tasks while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors professionally, answer and route phone calls.
- Schedule and confirm appointments; manage cancellations and no-shows.
- Register patients, verify insurance, and collect demographic information.
- Process co-payments and apply sliding fee scales as applicable.
- Maintain patient charts and electronic medical records (EMR).
- Coordinate referrals and assist with medical record requests.
- Handle incoming/outgoing mail, faxes, and maintain office supplies.
- Support billing processes and daily reconciliation of encounters.
- Participate in quality improvement and uphold HIPAA compliance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (additional healthcare or office training preferred).
- 1–2 years of administrative or healthcare experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to multitask and maintain confidentiality.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
