We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Fish Marker. As a Fish Marker, you will play a crucial role in accurately and efficiently marking fish for identification and tracking purposes. Your primary responsibility will be to apply specific marks, tags, or labels to fish specimens, ensuring proper identification and data collection. This position requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of fish biology and anatomy.
Key Responsibilities:
Fish Marking: Perform fish marking procedures according to established protocols and guidelines. This may involve applying tags, labels, or marks using various techniques, such as fin clipping, injection, branding, or other non-invasive methods.
Identification and Recording: Ensure accurate identification of fish species and record relevant data such as species, size, weight, sex, location, and other pertinent information. Maintain detailed and organized records of marked fish for future reference and data analysis.
Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and calibrate fish marking equipment, including tagging devices, labeling systems, fin clippers, and other tools. Report any equipment issues or malfunctions to the supervisor and assist in troubleshooting and repair, if possible.
Compliance and Safety: Adhere to applicable regulations, permits, and ethical guidelines governing fish marking activities. Ensure compliance with animal welfare standards and maintain a safe working environment for both yourself and fellow team members.
Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, including fisheries biologists, technicians, or researchers, to coordinate fieldwork, data collection, and research objectives. Participate in team meetings, share insights, and contribute to the overall success of the research project.
