Retail Bakery/Deli Clerk

Job Summary:

We are seeking a friendly, detail-oriented Bakery/Deli Clerk to join our grocery store team. The ideal candidate will provide excellent customer service, maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene, and ensure the bakery and deli sections are well-stocked, clean, and inviting. This role involves direct interaction with customers, preparation and packaging of food items, and coordination with other team members to ensure smooth operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Customer Service & Sales

  • Respond promptly and courteously to customer queries.
  • Make product recommendations based on customer preferences.
  • Provide samples to promote products and enhance customer experience.
  • Help customers locate, choose, and purchase bakery and deli items.

• Product Handling & Preparation

  • Weigh, label, and package products accurately for billing and delivery.
  • Prepare deli items such as sandwiches, salads, and baked goods as per store standards.
  • Ensure all products are fresh, properly stored, and attractively displayed.

• Inventory & Merchandising

  • Stock shelves, displays, and showcases with bakery and deli products.
  • Rotate stock to ensure freshness and reduce waste.
  • Organize and maintain product displays to maximize visual appeal and sales.

• Sanitation & Safety

  • Clean work areas, tools, and equipment regularly.
  • Follow all food safety and hygiene procedures in accordance with company policy and health regulations.
  • Dispose of expired or spoiled items responsibly.

• Team Coordination

  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure efficient workflow and customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding inventory needs and customer feedback.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in a bakery, deli, or food service environment is a plus.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
• Basic math skills for weighing and labeling products.
• Knowledge of food safety standards and practices.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Lift and carry items up to 25 lbs.
• Work in refrigerated environments as needed.
