⭐ EQUIPMENT OPERATOR, LIGHT
📍 Location: Bend, Oregon
💲 Pay: $25.75 per hour
🕒 Schedule: Typically four 10‑hour shifts – 6:30am – 5:00pm
🔷 Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable Equipment Operator to perform a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks requiring physical strength and dexterity, and operating light automotive and construction equipment used in landfill/transfer station operations. The person will operate a variety of light equipment involving the manipulation of auxiliary controls as well as perform a wide variety of manual tasks associated with departmental operations and maintenance. The position requires the ability to stand and move throughout a 10‑hour shift.
🔶 Primary Responsibilities
• Performs a variety of manual tasks associated with solid waste disposal activities
• Works independently on assigned tasks or as a part of crew assigned to specific projects and operations
• Will operate light automotive, construction, earthmoving, and road equipment
• Maintains a variety of records, logs and other documentation, including pre and post equipment inspections
• Opens and closes the transfer station
• Assists customers by providing directions and answering questions about fees, recycling, and disposal
• Provides traffic control and monitor customer safety
• Conducts waste screening to identify prohibited items
• Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area
• Performs other duties as assigned
🔷 Requirements
• Ability to stand and move for the majority of a 10‑hour shift
• Ability to perform minor maintenance on equipment and maintain records
• Ensure safe operation of vehicles, equipment, and tools, sometimes under adverse conditions
• Excellent communication skills
• Demonstrate courteous behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff
• Comply with all policies and procedures
• Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work the required schedule
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving history screening
• Ability to pass a comprehensive drug screen
• Ability to pass a background check
