Career Type: Team Member Summary Responsible for welding components and assemblies according to specified weld sizes, types, and quality standards, ensuring structural integrity and a clean, professional appearance. Responsibilities Work from production orders, blueprints, route sheets, method sheets, and supervisor instructions. Weld metal components according to layouts, diagrams, work orders, welding procedures, and verbal instructions using electric wire-feed welding equipment. Retrieve welding fixtures and positioners from storage and identify them by part or tool number as listed on the route sheet. Apply weld beads of specified length, radius, and size to ensure secure fastening and leak-proof seams when required. Weld components to create weldments of various shapes, regular, irregular, eccentric, and symmetric, all based on simple or detailed designs. Adjust amperage and voltage to achieve high-quality welds at the fastest appropriate linear speed. Maintain accurate angular, dimensional, and spatial relationships within specified tolerances by properly using fixtures, positioning parts, clamping, and verifying alignment. Strike an arc to generate heat that melts and deposits metal from the electrode to the workpiece, joining edges as required. Guide the welding gun manually along the weld line, maintaining correct arc length and travel speed to achieve proper fusion and bead formation, judged by metal color, weld sound, and puddle size. Perform welding in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions. Clean or degrease weld joints or workpieces using wire brushes, grinders, or chemical solutions. Use oxy-acetylene torch equipment to cut metal plates or structural shapes as needed. Competencies Engagement Demonstrates the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve business objectives.
