Spray Room Operator
Position Overview
The Spray Room Operator plays a key role in the powder coating process by ensuring products meet quality standards and production goals. This position is responsible for operating spray equipment, maintaining powder coating quality, supporting efficient production flow, managing powder inventory, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. The role also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and supports overall manufacturing operations.
Reporting Relationship
Reports directly to the Production Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
Powder Coating Operations
- Apply powder coatings using proper spraying techniques and best practices.
- Operate coating equipment safely and effectively to achieve desired results.
- Inspect coating appearance and thickness to ensure quality requirements are met.
- Understand the relationship between powder characteristics, substrates, and finished product quality.
- Monitor and maintain consistency throughout the coating process.
Production Efficiency
- Support efficient production schedules by monitoring workflow within the spray area.
- Work with supervisors and team leaders to improve productivity and reduce downtime.
- Assist in adjusting production processes, including line speed considerations, to optimize results.
Color Change and Setup
- Perform color changeovers in a timely and organized manner.
- Identify opportunities to improve changeover efficiency and reduce transition times.
- Follow established procedures while recommending process enhancements when appropriate.
Inventory Control
- Maintain accurate records of powder coating materials.
- Verify inventory levels and report discrepancies or shortages as needed.
- Help ensure materials are available to meet production demands.
Quality and Communication
- Communicate quality concerns, production issues, and improvement opportunities to leadership.
- Assist in troubleshooting coating defects or process-related challenges.
- Participate in problem-solving efforts to support product quality and customer expectations.
Workplace Organization
- Keep the spray booth and surrounding production areas clean, safe, and orderly.
- Perform routine housekeeping and maintenance activities as required.
- Complete assigned tasks and proactively address operational needs to support team success.

Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in powder coating, manufacturing, or a related industrial environment.
- Familiarity with production processes and quality control practices.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing and production environment.
- Regular use of hand tools, lifting devices, and forklifts.
- Exposure to industrial equipment, production machinery, and coating materials.
- Adherence to all safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to routinely lift and move materials weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Frequent use of hands, arms, and upper body for repetitive motions.
- Ability to walk, reach, bend, see, hear, and communicate effectively in a manufacturing setting.
