Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor insurance websites and provider portal accounts for overpayment requests.
- Identify & manage overdue self-pay accounts in the clinic’s patient accounts receivable.
- Provide customer service regarding billing, payment discrepancies, refunds, and account adjustments.
- Verify insured patient accounts for accurate copays, deductibles, and insurance coverage before collecting payments.
- Process unapplied balances and submit adjustments for approval.
- Contact patients with overdue accounts to collect payments or arrange payment plans.
- Explain balances owed by reviewing Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA).
- Maintain detailed records of contacts, payments, and patient communication.
- Assist in resolving billing issues and patient complaints.
- Submit monthly reports on unpaid accounts and refund reconciliations.
- Process patient refunds in accordance with company policy and ensure demographic accuracy to reduce returned or unprocessed checks.
- Follow up on refund letters received from insurance carriers.
- Attend training sessions as required.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Knowledge of medical billing & insurance filing rules/regulations (HIPAA/OSHA compliance)
- 2 years of experience required
- Strong communication & customer service skills
- Proficiency with medical software, EMR systems, and office equipment
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work efficiently under pressure
- Professional demeanor with the ability to build positive working relationships
