Waste Collection Helper / Refuse Collector

Position Summary: The Waste Collection Helper is responsible for collecting residential and commercial waste, recycling, and yard debris along designated routes. This position requires lifting and emptying trash containers, and working outdoors in all weather conditions. Candidates must be physically fit, safety-conscious, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule & Requirements

• Tuesday-Friday 6:30a-4:30p
• Must be able to pass a drug screening (Including THC)
• Must be able to pass background screening
• Steel toed boots required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ride on the back of refuse collection trucks between stops.
• Collect and empty residential and commercial trash, recycling, and yard waste containers.
• Lift, carry, and maneuver containers weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with assistance.
• Return containers to designated locations after collection.
• Assist driver with route navigation and traffic awareness.
• Identify and report safety hazards, damaged containers, or service issues.
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and DOT regulations.
• Maintain a clean and professional appearance when interacting with the public.
• Work efficiently to complete assigned routes on schedule.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods.
• Ability to repeatedly bend, lift, twist, walk, climb, and stand throughout the shift.
• Comfortable riding on the rear platform of a collection truck.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and humidity.
• Reliable transportation and attendance.
• Ability to work early morning hours and occasional overtime.
• Must be safety-focused and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Physical Demands:

• Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds; occasional heavier lifting with assistance.
• Continuous walking, climbing, bending, reaching, and twisting.
• Exposure to dust, odors, noise, traffic, and varying weather conditions.
• Ability to work 8-12 hour shifts as needed.

Work Environment:

• Outdoor work environment with continuous exposure to changing weather conditions.
• Fast-paced and physically demanding role.
• Exposure to residential, commercial, and industrial collection sites.
• Requires working around moving vehicles and heavy equipment.
