Job Full Description
The Lead Carpenter / Site Foreman is the key on-site leader responsible for executing construction projects with high standards of craftsmanship, safety, and efficiency. This is a hands-on role involving physical labor, daily team leadership, and coordination with the Project Manager. This position ensures jobs are completed on time, within budget, and to the quality expectations of the company and client.
Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership
? Supervise field crews and assign daily tasks based on scope and schedule.
? Set the tone on-site through professionalism, clear communication, and accountability.
? Act as the primary point of contact on site for the Project Manager and client (when applicable).
Construction Execution
? Perform skilled carpentry and hands-on construction work alongside the team.
? Interpret and build from blueprints, scopes of work, and other project documents.
? Monitor job progress and adjust field operations to stay on schedule and within budget.
Project Planning
? Plan ahead for tools, materials, and logistics required for daily work.
? Coordinate with PM or purchasing staff to request materials or equipment in advance.
? Maintain clean, organized company vehicles and ensure they are stocked for upcoming tasks.
Quality Control
? Monitor work for quality, code compliance, and adherence to specifications.
? Identify and correct defects proactively before inspections or client walkthroughs. Hold crew accountable for workmanship and final project finish.
Communication & Reporting
? Provide daily progress updates to the PM through Buildertrend or designated software.
? Communicate clearly with the crew and PM about expectations and changes.
? When problems arise, you would be expected to present potential solutions to the PM for consideration.
Jobsite Safety & Cleanliness
? Enforce safety practices and ensure proper PPE is worn at all times.
? Ensure clean and safe jobsite with scheduled cleanups at least every 2 hours.
? Conduct a final site check at day’s end and ensure tools are stored and hazards removed.
Qualifications
? 5+ years of residential construction experience, including 1–2 years in a leadership role.
? Proven carpentry expertise and ability to manage all phases of remodeling.
? Ability to read and interpret blueprints, scopes of work, and technical drawings.
? Strong leadership, time management, and communication skills.
? Familiarity with Buildertrend or similar project management software is a plus.
? OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
? Strong technology skills.
? Required to have your own cell phone and use it for work purposes.
? Required to have a valid drivers license.
? Must be eligible to be insured under company vehicle insurance (requires employees to be 21+ years of age)
Physical Requirements
? Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly.
? Stand, climb, bend, kneel, and work in variable outdoor conditions.
? Comfort working in fast-paced, physically demanding environments.
