10-12 hours per day
4-5 days per week
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lathe and deck operators work together as a team. Know both the lathe and deck operator jobs. The lathe operator has ultimate responsibility for lathe operation.
- Set up lathe knives and operate the lathe to maximize quality and production of veneer.
- Monitor peel quality continuously for smoothness, thickness, flat and straight ribbons and clean score trim.
- Hone and change out lathe knives when needed.
- Perform quality checks and troubleshoot any malfunctions or potential problems.
- Visually check all incoming blocks for quality. Check for correct block temperature.
- Assist maintenance during breakdowns.
- Able to use micrometer to ensure proper knife settings.
