A local cookie production company is seeking a Quality Assurance Manager to join their team and continue carrying on their quality processes and procedures, as well as creatively implementing new ideas and processes to improve efficiency.
The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for monitoring and ensuring plant products are safe and meet customer specifications and company quality and reliability standards.

Salary: $85,000-$100,000 starting range

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages, mentors, and directs staff responsible for microbiological testing and other quality control testing of plant products.
  • Oversees the weight and defect control programs in accordance with plant and company standards.
  • Communicates performance standards to associates, recognizing and rewarding individual and team accomplishments and counseling performance problems. Ensures all associates have the resources and capabilities to effectively accomplish their responsibilities.
    Resolves complaints about plant products, maintaining necessary records regarding the problem’s resolution.
  • Ensures that the company's product "hold" policies and procedures are communicated to plant staff and that the plant adheres to the procedures.
  • Recommends, as appropriate, the suspension of production or the release of product when quality standards are not achieved.
  • Leads and/or participates in quality audits of the plant.
  • Participates in regular meetings with plant management to discuss quality improvements.
  • Develops, maintains and reports required operational information to management. Ensures all quality-related information required for regulatory reviews and reporting is maintained by the plant.
  • Ensures that all GMP and Safety standards are in compliance.
  • Participates in weekly GMP, sanitation and safety inspections throughout the production departments and corrects, or issues work orders to correct, any identified deficiencies.
  • Follows up on work orders, with the appropriate Associates to ensure expeditious performance of the requested work.
  • Keeps abreast of latest manufacturing technologies, systems, and quality control practices.
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of all products manufactured by the plant as well as the raw materials, packaging materials, and operations required in the manufacturing process including quality specifications and standards.
  • Performs other related responsibilities, as needed, to support Bud’s Best Cookies Inc.'s business objectives.
  • Support the business by providing technical assistance on Quality and Food Safety standards & guidelines
  • Ensure all products transition from R&D with the appropriate information regarding product safety
  • Participate in customer work groups as needed to maintain appropriate relationships
  • Review product specifications at an interval that assures compliance with all regulatory and customer requirements
  • Assure the execution and adherence of company quality and food safety programs, policies, and procedures through the management and oversight of local QA departments
  • Ensure effective coordination of investigations, root cause analysis, risk assessments and implementation of change control, and corrective and preventative actions to the adhered timelines while following up through various methods including trending to ensure all corrective and preventative actions were implemented effectively
  • Communicate quality information on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis through reports, meetings, and presentations, as required
  • Provide plant management and company leadership with an accurate view of the company performance in quality
  • Ability to work one-on-one with QA techs on the production floor to ensure product integrity

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Needed:

  • Experience in a food-processing organization (will accept pet food processing)
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or similar science field from an accredited College or University strongly preferred
  • At least 5-10 years in the food industry (corporate and/or plant experience preferred)
  • Minimum 3-5 years supervisory experience in a food manufacturing plant
  • Knowledge of food microbiology and ISO/IEC 17025:2018
  • In-depth knowledge of FDA regulations, HACCP, SSOP, SOP, and cGMPs
  • Knowledge of Regulatory, Compliance & Documentation Affairs
  • Knowledgeable in Food Safety Plan, GMP, SPC, and Pest Control
  • Knowledgeable in CAPA, CCR, and B2B
  • Experience conducting GFSI benchmark audits required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of efficient and safe manufacturing operations to include product and associate safety, OSHA standards, product quality (success rates), and cost control (minimizing downtime and waste, optimizing yield)
  • Demonstrated ability to direct, coach, and train associates as well as plan, monitor and schedule work
  • Proficient using Excel or other spreadsheet software
