Job Full Description
Express is recruiting for a Temporary Public Affairs Intern
Essential Functions
- Monitoring of County Boards of Supervisors (Mendocino, Humboldt, Del Norte). Summarize key items of interest for the California Operations and advise on engagement with local government in coordination with California Policy & Communications Manager.
- Review the current draft Humboldt County Climate Action Plan and advise on specific items to be addressed, informing engagement with local government.
- Assistance with monitoring and reporting of items demonstrating conformance with FSC Principle 4: maintaining and enhancing the social and economic wellbeing of local communities.
- Preparation of educational forest tour materials and assistance with planning during tours and other items as identified.
- Pursuit and preparation of grant applications for a variety of forest-related projects including state, federal, and private funding sources.
- Support for the California Policy & Communications Manager on key initiatives and events, as directed.
- Potentially, pursuing and preparing grant applications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in fields like forestry, ecology, environmental science, communications, public policy, marketing, or journalism.
- Previous work or classes taken in community relations is preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills are desired.
- Proficiency in graphic design, experience with Canva and Adobe Acrobat tools
- Works with integrity, trust, and commitment.

Physical Requirement/Work Environment
- Home office environment with moderate noise levels; regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing, and reaching.
- Ability to perform consistent work on a PC.
- Must maintain punctual and regular attendance and present appropriate professional appearance when attending virtual meetings.

Compensation
Pay rate is $28 to $30 per hour.
