Controller – Strategic Financial Leadership Opportunity

Location: Eureka, CA (in person) | Salary: $110,000–$130,000/year | Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday

A well-established, award-winning regional company is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Controller to lead its financial operations. This is a high-impact role reporting directly to the President, offering mentorship opportunities and strategic influence across accounting, HR, and operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all core accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll (including Prevailing Wage), and general ledger operations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry-specific financial regulations, reporting standards, and internal policies.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and monthly/quarterly reporting packages for executive leadership.
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting processes, providing strategic insights to support business planning and growth initiatives.
  • Manage cash flow and liquidity, ensuring optimal financial health and timely vendor and payroll disbursements.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and legal advisors, ensuring timely and accurate documentation for audits, contracts, and regulatory filings.
  • Mentor and supervise finance and HR staff, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Streamline financial operations, identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency, and cost savings across departments.
  • Maintain corporate records and documentation, including contracts, insurance policies, employee handbooks, and licensing renewals.
  • Support M&A activities, including drafting and reviewing asset purchase agreements and coordinating due diligence efforts.
  • Administer company insurance policies and benefits, including renewals, quotes, and compliance with contractor license boards.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA/CMA preferred)
  • 2+ years in corporate accounting and general ledger management
  • Proficient in QuickBooks and Excel; experience with Quantum or Sedona Office a plus
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills
  • Experience in the construction or trades industries is a bonus
