Position Summary
The Packaging Tech III is responsible for operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining all equipment on the canning line. This role requires full proficiency at every station within the canning building, including advanced machinery, CIP/sanitation, and changeovers. Under minimal supervision, this person ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality packaging operations while assisting with training and supporting other team members.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Canning Line Operations
- Operate all machines on the canning line, including advanced filler and filtration systems
- Perform full CIP and sanitation of the canning line, tanks, and equipment
- Execute filler start-up and shutdown procedures; verify carbonation levels and record CO₂ readings
- Operate the Filtec low-fill detector and ensure compliance with fill standards
- Transfer cider from tanker to packaging tanks and perform required tank sanitation
- Assist with changeovers, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting
Station Responsibilities
Depalletizer
- Bring in new can pallets, operate depalletizer, and organize frames, tier sheets, and pallets
Case Packing & PakTech
- Pack cans into cases manually and apply PakTechs; monitor conveyor flow and identify damaged cans
Case Packing Machines
- Operate and monitor case packers; replenish consumables; perform changeovers
Palletizer & Wrapping
- Stack cases properly, maintain neat pallet builds, wrap pallets, and record pallets produced
- Ensure pallet tags match production orders; maintain accurate tally sheets
Line Cleanup & Rework
- Support reconditioning/rework tasks
- Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping in assigned areas
Team Support & Communication
- Participate in team meetings and continuous improvement efforts
- Help train and mentor new or less experienced team members
- Follow all SOPs to maintain productivity, product quality, and safety
- Report any equipment issues, hazards, or injuries immediately
Required Skills
- Ability to read and interpret SOPs, safety rules, and technical instructions
- Ability to communicate clearly in English (written & verbal)
- Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and bottling equipment
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and safety
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum 2 years of experience with bottling/canning operations or equivalent
- Forklift certification and ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack
- Strong work ethic, flexibility, and willingness to adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Bilingual preferred

Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly
- Stand, walk, bend, crouch, climb stairs/ladders for extended periods
- Work around noise, wet conditions, moving machinery, and temperature variations
- Maintain alertness to quickly respond to equipment malfunctions
- Eye protection and PPE required in all canning areas
