Now hiring an Animal Caretaker - Part time
Schedule 2-days a week (hours being 7:30am to 10:30am, then 4-5pm, then 8-8:30pm)
$17-$22/hr Depending on Experience
Position Summary:
The Animal Caretaker is responsible for the daily care and well-being of animal residents—primarily horses—at a humane sanctuary. This role ensures that animals receive proper nutrition, grooming, enrichment, and medical attention while maintaining a safe and organized environment. The caretaker works closely with leadership to implement and review animal husbandry protocols and contributes to the overall health and welfare of animals on the property.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist in developing and reviewing care procedures and husbandry plans under the guidance of sanctuary leadership.

Maintain accurate, detailed records of animal care activities and observations.

Follow veterinary instructions and treatment plans to ensure appropriate medical care.

Provide daily feeding, watering, grooming, and enrichment to all animals, with a primary focus on horses.

Monitor animals for any signs of illness, behavioral changes, or injuries, and report concerns promptly.

Ensure animals receive appropriate exercise and stimulation as part of their daily care.

Promote a safe working environment by following and modeling all safety protocols and addressing hazards as they arise.
Required Qualifications and Skills:

High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in animal science, biological sciences, or a related field preferred.

Licensed Animal Care Technician or equivalent experience strongly preferred but not required.

Solid understanding of animal behavior, care, and husbandry practices—experience with equine care is essential.

Ability to assess animal health through basic vitals (temperature, pulse, respiration) and behavioral cues.

Proven ability to implement care routines and best practices for multiple species.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Role is based at a sanctuary facility located in Palm City, FL.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and carry up to 30 lbs as part of daily tasks.

Regularly required to bend, lift, push, pull, kneel, stoop, and reach to perform physical aspects of animal care.

Requires normal visual and auditory acuity to interact with animals, team members, and equipment.

Possible exposure to animal-related hazards including bites or zoonotic diseases.
-
May be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment.
