Master Scheduler

Position Summary

We are seeking a Master Scheduler to lead the development, maintenance, and optimization of our production schedule to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products. This key role serves as the central hub between Operations, Procurement, Engineering, and Sales, ensuring that manufacturing capacity aligns with demand forecasts, customer orders, and material availability.

The ideal candidate has a background in heavy equipment or custom manufacturing, is highly proficient in ERP/MRP systems (Epicor preferred), and has a proven track record of improving scheduling efficiency, production flow, and on-time delivery.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS) based on demand, inventory targets, and capacity constraints.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Engineering, Procurement, and Production to ensure accurate lead time and job demand data.

  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems to release jobs, manage reschedules, and ensure material and labor availability.

  • Analyze load vs. capacity and adjust schedules to prevent bottlenecks and optimize utilization.

  • Track and report on On-Time Delivery (OTD), Work in Progress (WIP), and Schedule Attainment metrics.

  • Identify and resolve scheduling conflicts due to material shortages, labor issues, or equipment downtime.

  • Lead or support production meetings to communicate priorities and upcoming workloads.

  • Drive lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce lead times and enhance production flow.

  • Maintain scheduling documentation, process updates, and change control records.


Leadership Responsibilities

  • Supervise and develop scheduling and planning staff.

  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide timely feedback and coaching.

  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance reviews.

  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the department.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience & Skills:

  • 5+ years of production scheduling/planning experience in a heavy or custom manufacturing environment.

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, fabrication, assembly, and painting.

  • ERP experience required; Epicor Kinetic strongly preferred.

  • Experience with MTO, ETO, and MTS environments.

  • Skilled in managing complex, high-mix, low-volume production schedules with long lead times.

  • Strong analytical and Excel skills; ability to generate and interpret BOMs.

  • Knowledge of Lean principles, 5S, Kanban, and capacity planning.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.


Physical & Work Environment

  • Ability to read drawings, photos, and written instructions; communicate clearly in person and via email.

  • Occasional exposure to noise, fumes, and moving equipment in manufacturing areas.

  • Must wear required PPE including safety glasses, approved footwear, and hearing protection when applicable.
