Plumbing Department Manager
Location: South Indianapolis to Columbus, IN Industry: Residential & Light Commercial Plumbing Compensation: Base salary $150,000K + performance bonuses. Benefits: Company vehicle, phone, laptop, IRA match, health insurance, dental, 3 weeks PTO
Overview
A well-established, family-owned plumbing company is seeking a strategic and inspiring Plumbing Department Manager to lead a team of technicians. This is a leadership role focused on profitability, team culture, and customer satisfaction—not a field position. The ideal candidate brings a proven track record of building high-performing teams, driving growth, and creating a 5-star customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Culture
- Lead, coach, and inspire a team of plumbing professionals.
- Build and maintain a strong, accountable, and fun team culture.
- Hold technicians accountable in a positive, ethical, and motivating manner.
- Lead by example with confidence, integrity, and strategic foresight.
Business Strategy & Profitability
- Ensure the plumbing department is consistently profitable.
- Think five steps ahead—like a chess game—anticipating challenges and opportunities.
- Create and manage incentive plans tied to performance and profitability.
- Monitor job sites regularly (including attics, crawlspaces, and dirty areas) to ensure quality and craftsmanship.
- Maintain high standards of service and customer experience.
Operations & Growth
- Collaborate with leadership team (President/GM, HVAC Manager, Office Manager, Field Managers).
- Coach and train team members to elevate their careers and performance.
- Understand and manage departmental numbers, KPIs, and budgets.
- Contribute to business development and customer acquisition strategies.
- Align with industry best practices through training and resources.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience in a service-based or sales-driven organization.
- Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
- Ability to inspire, motivate, and develop teams.
- Comfortable with light field oversight (not a hands-on plumbing role).
- Sales training or coaching experience preferred.
- Familiarity with residential plumbing, home services, or similar industries is a plus—but not required.
