This role is pivotal in helping the organization grow to the next level and prepare for a capital campaign. The Development Director will design and execute a comprehensive development strategy that drives revenue growth, deepens donor engagement, and strengthens community partnerships. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone with a track record of growing nonprofit funding streams, implementing donor management systems, and building lasting relationships with individuals, churches, and businesses.

Development Director Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising Strategy & Execution
    • Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan that includes major gifts, grants, events, and capital campaign initiatives.
    • Establish and track measurable KPIs, including donor calls, appointments, and participation in community events.
    • Identify new funding opportunities and partnerships to expand the organization’s donor base and overall reach.
  • Donor Engagement & Stewardship
    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, businesses, churches, and community partners.
    • Create and implement communication strategies to engage, recognize, and retain donors.
    • Oversee donor data integrity and manage implementation of a new CRM system for tracking relationships and reporting outcomes.
  • Grant Writing & Reporting
    • Research, write, and submit grants to private foundations and other funding entities.
    • Maintain an organized system for grant reporting and deadlines.
  • Marketing & Communications Oversight
    • Provide direction for marketing efforts, ensuring consistent branding across print, digital, and event materials.
    • Support the design of print and digital collateral for fundraising campaigns and community outreach.
  • Community Presence & Representation
    • Represent the organization at community events, church gatherings, and networking opportunities with potential to add future fundraising events such as an annual gala or luncheon.
    • Serve as an ambassador for the mission, sharing the organization’s story and impact with passion and professionalism.
  • Capital Campaign & Growth Initiatives (Future)
    • Lead planning and execution of a capital campaign to support organizational expansion.
    • Collaborate with leadership to develop campaign materials, case statements, and donor communications.

Schedule & Pay:

  • Part-Time (flexible hours based on need), Long-term Contract Role
  • Salary: $75,000–$85,000/year, based on experience

Development Director Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit development, with demonstrated success leading organizations through periods of growth and expansion.
  • Proven experience with fundraising strategy development, major donor cultivation, and capital campaign leadership.
  • Experience implementing or upgrading donor CRM systems.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and meet goals with minimal supervision.
  • Preferred: Grant writing experience, oversight of marketing functions, and familiarity with church and faith-based community engagement.
