Medical Billing Specialist Job Summary:
A local therapy group with two locations throughout West Michigan is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Billing Specialist to manage insurance billing and reimbursement processes in their Holland, MI office. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in claim submission, insurance follow-up, and appeals, with a solid understanding of medical coding and compliance standards. This part-time role is essential to ensuring accurate billing and timely reimbursements while maintaining clear communication with both insurance companies and clients.
Medical Billing Specialist Responsibilities:

Submit and follow up on insurance claims to ensure timely reimbursement

Resolve claim rejections and denials by researching issues and submitting corrections or appeals

Apply accurate medical coding to support compliant billing practices

Navigate insurance portals and systems to retrieve client information and track claim statuses

Maintain compliance with payer-specific guidelines and industry regulations

Contact clients regarding billing details or outstanding information

Prepare and submit supporting documentation for appeals when needed

Communicate professionally with clients, insurance representatives, and internal staff

Ensure accurate and organized documentation of all billing activities

Collaborate with clinicians and administrative staff as needed to ensure billing accuracy
Schedule & Pay:
- Part-time, Monday-Friday, 28-30 hrs. In person with flexible schedule.
- $20-23/hr.
Medical Billing Specialist Qualifications:

2+ years of experience in medical billing, preferably in a mental health or therapy setting

Strong understanding of insurance claim submission, denials, and appeals processes

Proficient in medical insurance terminology

Familiarity with major insurance carriers and their portals

High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

Ability to work independently while maintaining confidentiality

Clear, professional communication skills, both written and verbal

Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and billing compliance standards
