Assistant Project Manager – Mechanical Commercial Construction

 

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will provide vital support in managing HVAC construction projects through all phases—ensuring safety, quality, budgets, schedules, and communication remain on track. This role is ideal for someone looking to grow their project management career with a leading mechanical contractor.

Key Responsibilities

Document Control

  • Review, organize, and distribute contract documents (drawings, specs, schedules, RFIs, bulletins, shop drawings/submittals) to project stakeholders

  • Track and log submittals, RFIs, and related documentation

  • Draft, submit, and track RFIs with timely follow-up on responses

  • Attend coordination meetings, take notes, and distribute to the team

  • Support project-specific quality control programs and maintain documentation

  • Maintain progress drawings, as-built records, and closeout documentation (O&M manuals, training, startup reports, punch lists)

Scope of Work Support

  • Assist with identifying, tracking, and reporting changes to project scope

Procurement Support

  • Maintain equipment procurement logs and track rentals

  • Coordinate with purchasing for equipment orders and shipping schedules

Safety Compliance

  • Conduct site walkthroughs, inspections, and audits

  • Assist in ensuring safety requirements are met (site-specific safety plans, toolbox talks, pre-task planning, audits, and Industry Safe software use)

Estimation

  • Coordinate with suppliers/vendors to develop estimates

  • Perform basic estimating using estimating software

  • Support proposal/letter of scope development

  • Participate in pre-bid, page turn, turnover, and pre-planning meetings

Job Costing & Labor Tracking

  • Support project managers and foremen with labor tracking and productivity reporting in accounting software

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction, or related field preferred

  • 2+ years of construction industry experience

  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems, design techniques, tools, and principles

  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents

  • Familiarity with business administration and project management practices

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills—collaborative, team-oriented, and detail-focused

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
