Job Full Description
The Paralegal Manager is primarily accountable for overseeing the strategy and completion of the paralegal team responsibilities, and for providing high quality support for the legal department and attorneys within the organization.
This position is responsible for overseeing two or more team leads who manage a team of legal assistants, junior paralegals, and/or paralegals.
General Job Responsibilities
- Stay current on legal developments and best practices in the paralegal field.
- Collaborate with attorneys and other legal professionals within the organization.
- Assist with the management of litigation and other legal matters, performing legal research and analysis as needed.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for Paralegal team.
- Participate in legal departmental meetings and provide input on paralegal-related matters.
Contracts
- Manage the full contract lifecycle, from intake, drafting, negotiation, execution, and renewal to termination, ensuring alignment with company policies and risk standards.
- Train and mentor junior legal staff and paralegals on contract processes, best practices, and internal tools to promote consistency and legal compliance.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve reporting mechanisms related to contract status, obligations, and performance metrics.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase contract turnaround time, reduce risk, and enhance operational efficiency.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, procurement, finance, and business teams to align contracts with strategic goals and ensure seamless execution.
- Maintain and update templates, clause libraries, and playbooks to support scalable contract management across jurisdictions and business units.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with key contract terms, including SLAs, renewal deadlines, and audit rights.
- Support internal audits and regulatory compliance initiatives by providing timely and accurate contract documentation.
- Leverage contract management systems and digital tools to track workflows, automate alerts, and enhance visibility.
- Act as the primary point of contact for contract-related escalations, approvals, and strategic negotiations when required.
Intellectual Property Law
- Review all open source before each release.
- Research and draft memos for counsel’s review on ongoing IP issues.
- Research intellectual property law changes on a bi-weekly basis, working with the software teams to update accordingly.
Training on Non-Legal Interpretation and Legal Updates for Other Departments
- Participate in education opportunities to keep up to date on new training.
- Coordinate with training team to lead and maintain company legal training on legal updates and how to direct legal interpretation questions.
- Update the company regarding any paralegal team or legal process changes through weekly meetings and/or trainings.
Position Requirements:
Education Level: Bachelors Degree
Experience Level: 4+ years as paralegal, 2+ years in a leadership role
Specialized Skills, Certificates, Licenses: North Carolina Paralegal Certification (required); National certification (e.g., NALA, NFPA) and Notary Public preferred
Preferred Skills: Critical thinking, operating with integrity, highly detail-oriented, and the ability to motivate those around them. High level of empathy and a passion for developing others. Strong oral and written communication skills. Expert level of proficiency in Microsoft 365, BoldDesk, and CRM databases.
