Job Full Description
Summary
Design and development of paper converting machinery and related equipment. Responsible for the design, development, and documentation associated with the project’s electrical systems. This includes the control system electronics hardware, electro-mechanical interfaces, hardware programming, compliance to the machine specifications, and compliance to the applicable electrical codes and standards. Must be able to solve complex machine control problems by applying knowledge of electrical engineering principles to accomplish technical assignments.
The position
The role will consist of these tasks:
- Works as a collaborative electrical engineering team member applying electrical engineering principles to develop design solutions for electromechanical machine control.
- Ability to design and develop embedded systems using microcontrollers.
- Create and debug schematics and PCB layouts. Altium software preferred.
- Write, test, and debug software using ladder languages for PLC + HMI such as Unitronics, Panasonic, Advantech or Beckhoff.
- Write, test, and debug firmware for microcontrollers using languages such as C, C++
- Have a good understanding of communication protocols
- Work with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications
- Conduct design reviews, testing for validation of prototypes and production hardware in compliance with NPI stage gate process.
- Perform troubleshooting, failure analysis, and implement corrective actions
- Document designs, code, test procedures and support manual creation
- Manage and execute Custom projects.
- Visit customers to gather and document technical feedback needed for design improvement.
- Assist Sales and visit customers in order to offer technical solutions.
- Develop and design control systems for machine applications, including functionality and safety systems.
- Confirms electrical systems and component’s capabilities and quality by designing testing plans.
- Prepares engineering reports, calculations and checks drawings for completeness and accuracy.
- Responsible for design and concept and layout using Draft sight and Eplan.
- Participates in design projects, customized products, existing product maintenance, quality improvements and cost reduction.
- Research for alternative products, interacts with vendors to create excellent cost price in relation to required quality, compliance to UL, CSA, NFPA safety standards. (close cooperation with Purchase and Quality department).
