Human Resources & Safety Manager
Salary Range: $96,000 – $137,180 (based on education, experience, and internal equity)
Overview
We’re seeking an experienced and proactive Human Resources & Safety Manager to join our plant leadership team. This role is responsible for overseeing all human resources functions and ensuring the highest standards of workplace safety, environmental compliance, and employee relations. The ideal candidate will bring strong HR expertise, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a safe, positive, and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Environmental Management
- Promote and maintain a safe, compliant, and secure workplace environment.
- Identify and correct unsafe acts or conditions, and lead monthly safety meetings and facility inspections.
- Investigate incidents and drive continuous safety improvement initiatives.
- Manage and update emergency response and contingency plans, ensuring familiarity with all facility operations and waste handling requirements.
- Serve as a point of contact for local, state, and federal safety and environmental agencies.
Human Resources Leadership
- Lead and administer all plant-level HR operations in alignment with corporate policies and local regulations.
- Manage full-cycle recruitment, including interviewing, pre-employment screenings, and onboarding.
- Oversee compensation, benefits, and performance management programs.
- Ensure compliance with all employment laws and company standards, including EEOC, ADA, and Affirmative Action.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, including promotions, disciplinary actions, and evaluations.
- Develop and deliver effective orientation and training programs to support employee growth and compliance.
Employee & Labor Relations
- Build and maintain a workplace culture rooted in trust, fairness, and respect.
- Address employee relations matters promptly and constructively to minimize conflict and third-party intervention.
- If applicable, administer collective bargaining agreements, handle grievances and arbitrations, and participate in labor negotiations.
- Maintain productive relationships with union representatives and plant leadership.
Leadership & Administration
- Provide guidance and support to management and staff on HR and safety-related matters.
- Manage department budgets, staffing plans, and performance objectives.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental and hazardous waste regulations.
- Participate in emergency preparedness activities and communicate with environmental and emergency management teams.
- Lead with integrity and professionalism, upholding company policies, values, and ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 2 years of HR management or related experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, labor relations, and HR best practices.
- Proven ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
- Skilled in negotiation, employee engagement, and conflict resolution.
- Computer literacy and familiarity with HRIS and reporting systems.
- Demonstrated leadership, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or overtime, as required.
Work Environment
This position operates in both office and manufacturing settings and may involve exposure to noise, chemicals, and physical obstacles. Appropriate PPE must be worn in designated areas. The role may occasionally require weekend work, overtime, or on-call availability to meet operational needs.
