Job Full Description
Overview: A local transportation company is looking to fill a temporary Marine Service Ambassador position through July 2026. You would be maintaining accurate passenger counts and serving as the first point of contact for Marine Services passengers.
JOB DUTIES:
May include but not limited to the following:
- Maintain accurate counts of passengers, bikes, and scooters to ensure that vessel capacity is not exceeded and clearly communicate to passengers when the boat has reached full capacity and additional boarding is not permitted
- Serve as the first point of contact for Marine Services passengers and the public by providing information and assistance regarding ferry services, sailing schedules, fares, brochures, terminal facilities, lost and found items, accessibility, complaints, and other service-related inquiries
- Support passengers while staging, boarding, and disembarking
- Announce arrivals, departures, and delays
- Record initial complaints and commendations, ensure proper follow-up, and notify supervisors when necessary
- Perform administrative support tasks to aid department operations under limited supervision
- Promote high-quality customer service by advising passengers on marine policies, special services, and fare products
- Respond to public inquiries on marine operations, transit connections, community information, and points of interest
- Provide guidance on transit options and connections to help customers reach their destinations
- Adhere to safety and security procedures
- Contact law enforcement or appropriate first responders when required, communicate incident details and assist in response efforts
- Maintain a safe environment for passengers and provide support during emergencies, including evacuations, closures, and incident investigations
- Report unsafe conditions and take corrective action as needed
- Perform light housekeeping duties such as litter collection and trash removal at docks, vessels, and passenger waiting areas
- Assist dockside with vessel operations when needed
- Maintain clear communication with vessel crews to coordinate passenger boarding, operational updates, and safety procedures
Requirements:
- Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions including rain, wind, cold, heat, and snow
- Must have 2 years customer service experience
- Must be eligible for Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
- Must be able to carry items weighing up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to walk and/or stand for two hours at a time
- Must be able to multi-task in fast-paced environment
- Must be able to work independently with limited supervision
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Must be able to follow instructions and adhere to policies and procedures
Pay: $27.30/hour
Schedule:
Marine Services Ambassadors must be flexible and able to work any assigned shift. Currently, the three main shift categories are: Bremerton AM, Bremerton PM, and Kingston Split Shifts.
Bremerton AM
Monday-Friday 4:00AM-12:00PM
Saturday 8:00AM-4:00PM
Bremerton PM
Monday-Friday 1:15PM-9:15PM
Saturday 4:00PM-11:00PM
Kingston Split Shift
Monday-Friday 4:15AM-9:00AM and 2:15PM-6:00PM
Expected hours would be 30-40 hours per week and can change based on the needs of the department. Marine Service Ambassadors work independently and play a critical role in Marine Services' operations, therefore, it is essential that all Marine Service Ambassadors show up for every scheduled shift, as well as arrive on time in all types of weather, including snow.
