Position Summary
The Sanitization Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary production and warehouse environment by cleaning equipment, work areas, and facility surfaces according to company standards and regulatory requirements. This position plays a critical role in supporting food safety, product quality, and workplace safety through proper sanitation practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize production equipment, machinery, floors, walls, and work areas according to established procedures.
- Disassemble and reassemble equipment as needed for thorough cleaning.
- Use approved cleaning chemicals and sanitation equipment safely and effectively.
- Follow all sanitation schedules, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, FDA, USDA, HACCP, and company food safety and sanitation standards, as applicable.
- Perform pre-operational inspections to verify equipment and production areas meet cleanliness standards.
- Properly handle, store, and dispose of cleaning chemicals and waste materials.
- Complete sanitation logs, cleaning records, and other required documentation accurately.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, maintenance issues, or safety hazards.
- Maintain a clean and organized sanitation supply area.
- Assist with special cleaning projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous sanitation, custodial, industrial cleaning, or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations, GMPs, and HACCP is preferred for food manufacturing environments.
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and use sanitation chemicals.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and reach throughout the shift.
- Ability to work in wet, humid, hot, or cold environments.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, safety glasses, boots, and protective clothing.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing, warehouse, or food production facility.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, water, steam, noise, and varying temperatures.
- May require evening, overnight, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on production schedules.
