The Electroplating/Electroforming Technician is responsible for performing metal plating and electroforming processes on parts per work instructions, technical drawings, and quality specifications. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow procedures precisely, and knowledge of plating techniques and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret work orders, blueprints, BOMs, and technical drawings to determine plating requirements.

  • Set up, operate, and monitor electroplating equipment for various metals such as nickel, copper, and cadmium.

  • Prepare parts for plating, including cleaning, rinsing, masking, and assembling to fixtures.

  • Measure and mark areas to exclude from plating, ensuring precision per specifications.

  • Control rectifiers to regulate electrical current during plating process.

  • Monitor plating thickness visually or using tools such as micrometers and calipers.

  • Rinse and dry plated parts, then disassemble from fixtures.

  • Inspect finished parts, including use of a video borescope as needed.

  • Perform additional processes such as etching as required.

  • Follow proper chemical handling procedures and use appropriate PPE at all times.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, reporting any unsafe conditions immediately.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and efficiency (e.g., 5S, waste elimination).

  • Communicate regularly with team members and management regarding project status and issues.

  • Complete assignments professionally and within specified timeframes.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and technical documents.

  • Hands-on experience with electroplating/electroforming and masking techniques.

  • Understanding of EH&S practices, including chemical safety and hazardous materials handling.

  • Skilled in using precision measuring instruments.

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain quality output in a fast-paced environment.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required; vocational training preferred.

  • 5–7 years of hands-on experience in electroplating/electroforming.

  • Prior experience working with production tools, fixtures, and manufacturing equipment.
