Job Title: Tax Preparer
Pay Rate: $35–$37 per hour (DOE)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Tax Preparer to prepare and review federal and state tax returns for individuals, business, S corporations and trusts. This role involves gathering financial information, applying appropriate tax laws, deductions, and credits, and providing guidance to ensure accurate filings.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare simple to complex tax returns for individuals, small businesses, corporations and trusts
- Compute taxes owed or overpaid using Lacerte tax software and standard tax tables
- Apply all appropriate adjustments, deductions, and credits to minimize tax liability
- Review financial records such as income statements, expense documentation, and supporting schedules
- Verify accuracy of data input and totals on tax forms prepared by self or others
- Explain federal and state tax laws, regulations, and filing requirements to clients
- Consult tax law handbooks, bulletins, and updates for atypical or complex returns
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance with all applicable regulations
Detailed Work Activities
- Calculate and analyze tax information
- Examine and verify financial records for accuracy
- Correspond with clients to resolve questions or concerns
- Explain policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements clearly
- Stay current on tax law changes and best practices
Qualifications
- Prior experience preparing individual and/or small business tax returns
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax laws
- Proficiency with Lacerte tax preparation software preferred
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication and client service skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
