Job Summary: Shipping Clerk
The Shipping Clerk is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation, documentation, and shipment of materials, including hazardous goods. This role requires a strong understanding of logistics processes, regulatory compliance, and safety protocols. The Shipping Clerk works closely with internal departments and external carriers to ensure smooth and compliant shipping operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately prepare and package orders according to specifications.
- Generate and scan required shipping documentation, including packing lists, invoices, and bills of lading.
- Schedule and coordinate carrier pickups; safely load and unload trucks.
- Operate forklifts and material handling equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ensure shipments meet deadlines and support on-time, in-full (OTIF) goals.
- Collaborate with Quality to obtain and verify compliance and export documentation.
- Contact freight carriers for quotes and pickup scheduling.
- Maintain organized records of all shipping paperwork and documentation.
- Adhere to company safety standards, particularly with hazardous materials and waste.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable shipping regulations (DOT, EPA, IATA, IMDG, etc.).
- Assist with inventory activities, including cycle counts and stock checks.
- Track shipments, file damage claims, and work with customer service to resolve delivery issues.
- Generate invoices and maintain order records.
- Verify load sheets and prepare bills of lading accordingly.
- Provide proof of delivery (POD) and respond to customer inquiries as needed.
- Monitor reports (e.g., Down in Shipping, Order Overdue) and take action to expedite orders.
- Maintain up-to-date Hazmat certification and complete required safety training.
- Ensure hazardous shipments are properly labeled, documented, packaged, and segregated.
- Conduct inspections of hazardous shipments for accuracy and compliance.
- Perform general warehouse duties and support team members as directed.
- Keep shipping and storage areas clean, safe, and organized.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Forklift Certification required.
- Hazmat Certification and knowledge of DOT/IATA/IMDG regulations strongly preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in shipping, logistics, or warehouse operations.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with shipping software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Position Type: Full Time Temp to Perm
Pay: $18.00
Schedule: 6am-3pm Overtime is a requirement
