Job Type: Full-time
About the role
This position is with a local CPA firm serving individuals and businesses throughout Marion County and Central Florida. We’re hiring a Tax Professional to prepare, review, and advise on a wide range of tax engagements. A CPA license is not required, but relevant tax and public accounting experience is essential. If you’re detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and enjoy working directly with clients, we’d love to speak with you.
What you’ll do

- Perform tax planning and projections for individuals and closely held businesses; identify savings opportunities and risks.
- Handle SALT compliance (multi-state returns as needed), sales & use tax, payroll tax filings, and information returns (1099s, W-2s).
- Research tax issues; draft clear, client-ready memos summarizing conclusions and recommendations.
- Respond to and resolve IRS and Florida Department of Revenue notices; support clients through exams and correspondence.
- Prepare and/or review workpapers, trial balances, and adjusting journal entries; collaborate with bookkeeping and assurance teams on year-end close.
- Manage multiple engagements simultaneously; maintain organized workpapers, meet filing deadlines, and uphold firm quality standards.
- Communicate proactively with clients—provide status updates, request documents, and deliver results on time.
- Contribute to process improvements, template development, and workflow best practices during and after busy season.
What you’ll bring
- 2–5+ years of recent public accounting tax experience (firm or multi-client environment).
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong working knowledge of individual and pass-through taxation; familiarity with Florida corporate tax concepts.
- Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., Drake, Lacerte, UltraTax, ProSystem fx, ProConnect) and QuickBooks; strong Excel skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and written/verbal communication.
- Ability to prioritize and meet statutory deadlines; comfortable with increased workload during busy season.
- CPA or EA a plus (not required). Representation credentials (EA/CPA) helpful for notices and exams.
Schedule & work setting
- Full-time, Monday–Friday.
- Busy season: Extended hours may be required (January–April) with flexibility the remainder of the year.
- On-site in Ocala, FL
